Basic Handgun Class

Basic Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes for Owning and Operating a Pistol Safely. Safe Gun Handling, Pistol Shooting and Maintaining a Pistol.

Whether you're a new or prospective gun owner or hunter, whatever your age or level of expertise, whichever fierarm you're interested in, our instructors and training materials have you covered.

This class is $95.00 and limited to 10 people.

Ladies Only Handgun Class

This class is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of how to safely handle, function and shoot a handgun. Perfect for new or novice shooters, this is a low-stress, fun-oriented course that installs comfort and confidence. Following a classroom lecture covering an assortment of topics, students participate in "dry" drills where they learn to safely handle and function their handgun before firing any shots. Students are then put through a series of live-fire drills where they practice all the topics covered in the classroom. Students are provided handouts which summarize key points of the class.

 Topics Covered:

Handgun ammunition types, common types of handguns, pros & cons to different types of handguns, basic firearms safety, marksmanship fundamentals, practical dry drills, live-fire drills, gun care and maintenance.

 Student Requirements:

•   One serviceable handgun (Handguns can be provided as part of the course)

•   50 rounds of ammunition

Intermediate Handgun Class

Drawing from a Holster while Concealed Carry, Reloading and Malfunction Drills, Immediate Action Engagement of Multiple Targets, Use of Cover and Concealment.

This class is $95.00 and limited to 10 people.

You need to have gone through the Basic Handgun Class before taking this class.

Advanced Handgun Class

This class covers shooting while moving, shooting while properly using cover and concealment and a shooting in low-light situations utilizing a flashlight.  You will need a good flashlight with fresh batteries, a minimum of 200 rounds of ammunition for your weapon. If you do not have your own weapon you may use one of ours free of charge and purchase the ammunition.

This class is $125 and limited to 10 people.

Low Light Shooting Class

Many defensive minded individuals carry firearms to protect themselves and families, but how many carry a flashlight, and how many of them have been trained in flashlight techniques. This class attacks that head on, giving the shooter an understanding of how the human eye works in various light conditions, types of flashlights, deployment of lights, Use of cover/concealment with flashlights and many more advanced skills. When you control the light, you control the environment.

Draw From The Holster Course

This two hour course is taught by experienced professionals. this course will cover: Range & firearm safety, Shooting fundamentals, Efficiently drawing & holstering a firearm.

This course is mandatory for anyone wanting to draw from a holster on sheepdog firearms range. With the exception of active law enforcement. 

What you will need to bring: Firearm, Exterior holster, 150 rounds of ammo, Extra magazines, Magazine pouch,

Please note that you will not be allow to use concealment, crossdraw and shoulder holsters also, open toe-shoes are not allowed during this course.

Defensive Shooting Fundamentals (DSF) / $150 - 8 Hour Course

Plus $30 to USCCA for student Kit ( online learning student and student manual )

The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA) Defensive Shooting Fundamentals (DSF) Level 1 was designed for training your mind & body how to react. It’s imperative that you train in as an efficient, realistic and practical a manner as possible so that you are prepared for a Dynamic Critical Incident. You can’t waste time or resources on anything that isn’t a specialized area of study. Build the foundation you need to understand intuitive defensive shooting and deadly force decision making. Unlock the lifesaving mindset of the warrior expert theory that will help you guess your attackers next move with ease. Discover how you can develop the ability to apply your shooting skills on demand, without anticipation, while trying to save your own life or the lives of others. Uncover the hands-on live-fire drills you must know to prepare and prevail even under the most dangerous of circumstances. You will be run through the Home-Defense Simulation Drill and if time permits the Take A Lap Drill and Tactical Stroll Drill.

The United States Concealed Carry Association (USCCA)Defensive Shooting Fundamentals (DSF) Level 2 was designed to build off the skills that were developed in the Level 1 Course. We will introduce you to the Emergency Reload, even more life-saving hands-on live-fire drills with more cognitive thinking that make you pause and think before engaging the target. All of this can only help you prepare and prevail even under the deadliest situations. You will be able to take this training and turn it into practice so you can enhance your response time by building your intuitive defensive shooting skills into your motor cortex (muscle memory), in order to help you survive a Dynamic Critical Incident. You will be run through the CCW Simulation Drill and if time permits the Wind Sprint Drill.

NOTE: This course is for new shooters and experienced shooters alike. However, the more comfortable you are with your weapon, the more you will get out of the course.

1) Semi-auto pistol (no revolvers)
2) Valid pistol license
3) Completion of Level 1 prior to Level 2

Investment: $150 plus $30 (total retail value of $180) to the USCCA for the eLearning, DSF book, and certificate.

§ Magazine pouch or pockets to store mags

§ At least 400 rounds of target ammunition

Women's Handgun & Self Defense Fundamentals

Women’s Handgun and Self-Defense Fundamentals is all about sharing the basics—along with the fun, the seriousness, and the importance of being a responsibly armed female.

The fundamentals of shooting will be introduced, reviewed, and built upon, while also exploring universal safety rules, situational awareness, common types of handguns, ammunition types, marksmanship skills, advanced firearms handling, defensive pistol fundamentals, and the use of deadly force.

The class is approximately 7 hours in length with classroom and live-fire on the range. Bring your own handgun (pistol or revolver), one spare magazine and 100 rounds of ammunition. Rental guns and ammunition are available at Sheepdog.

Price is $125 and Lunch Is provided

USCCA Concealed Carry & Home Defense Fundamentals

The USCCA Concealed Carry Course is a comprehensive course for anyone considering carrying a firearm for self-defense. This course length is usually 7 hours which includes both classroom and range components, uses a laser-training gun to develop point-shooting skills in the classroom and culminates with live fire on a range.

This course covers the following topics: develop your own personal protection plan; understand conflict avoidance; situational awareness; understanding of the physiology of violent encounters; the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath); and a guide to gear and gadgets. The course culminates with live fire on a range.

CSAP students will be exposed to three (3.5) hours of Safety Awareness Information, Tips, Skills and Techniques within an intimate and fun atmosphere. Class sizes are limited to no more than 10 students allowing your instructor to critique your performance and provide important feedback. Each student will receive:

- SABRE Defense Spray with Quick Release Key Ring

Your SABRE Personal Safety Academy will be taught by a Certified SABRE PSA Instructor. Prior to becoming a Certified SABRE PSA Instructor, your Instructor had to display his/her presentation abilities, knowledge of the program content, and ability to teach the practical safety drills.

Knowledge, enthusiasm, passion, and professionalism are required characteristics of SABRE Personal Safety Academy Instructors.

The pistol drills will cover the basic fundamentals of shooting while working through shooting drills. This course is for an individual with good shooting skills.  The course will be a 4 hour course. There will be physical movement during this course.  Equipment Requirements:  Pistol with 3 magazine and a double magazine holder or two single magazine holders.  Exterior Holster  Eyes and Ear Protection  250 rounds of approved ammo  LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), range member or approval by course instructor  All equipment will be inspected prior to class beginning. All participants must attend the entire course to receive a training certificate. Sheepdog Firearms Training does recommend the use of a full size pistol for this course, but the final decision will be left up to the student.  The cost of the course will be $150.00 (10 slots for this course)

The traditional hunter education course is a minimum 8 hours of instruction plus a written examination. The course is taught by Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries personnel and instructors to participants 10 years of age and older and is offered free of charge. The course includes but is not limited to firearms safety and handling, responsible hunting and hunter ethics, wildlife laws, wildlife management and identification, archery, muzzleloading, first aid, survival and game care.
